Columbus, GA – A late-night shooting on Macon Road near Lake Shore Road in Columbus, Georgia has tragically ended the life of a local high school student and left another individual critically injured. Columbus Police Department reported that they responded to calls about gunshots just before midnight on Saturday.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two vehicles riddled with bullet holes. Inside these cars were two young individuals, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were quickly transported to Piedmont Hospital for urgent medical care.
Tragically, Daryus Bryant, a student at Manchester High School, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The other victim, identified as Clarence Flavors, was taken into surgery immediately; his condition remains undisclosed at this time.
The Meriwether County School System confirmed that Bryant was a student at Manchester High and extended their condolences to his family. The district praised Bryant as an “exceptional young man” who excelled in both academics and athletics. They also noted that another student was injured in the incident, though further details about their identity have not been released.
In response to the tragedy, the school district has announced that counseling and support services will be available to students and staff as they navigate this challenging period. “Our priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” the district stated, calling for patience and respect as they deal with the aftermath of the event.
