Gogglebox Star George Gilbey Died From Traumatic Head Injury After Falling Through Skylight
Police confirmed last month that Gilbey, 40, had died in an accident while working at height.
“We received a report of an incident at Campfield Road in Shoebury at around 10am this morning (March 27)), during which a man who was working at height had fallen and sustained an injury,” an Essex Police spokesperson said.
“The ambulance service, including the air ambulance, was in attendance.
Sadly, the man died at the scene. We will continue liaising with partners, including the Health and Safety Executive.”
“A cordon remains in place at the scene.”
A hearing today in Chelmsford, Essex, was told Gilbey sustained traumatic injuries to his head and torso and died at the scene in Shoeburyness on 27 March
Essex senior coroner Lincoln Brookes opened and suspended Monday’s inquest, pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.
Coroner’s officer Deborah Frost said Mr. Gilbey had been “working on a roof when he fell through a plastic skylight, landing on the ground below.”.
She said that paramedics and police attended but that he died at the scene, with his provisional cause of death recorded as “traumatic injury to head and torso consistent with fall from height.”.
Gilbey appeared on Gogglebox’s second season in 2013 alongside his stepdad Pete McGarry and mom Linda.
They briefly left the show in 2014, but returned in 2016 without him.
They stayed on the show until 2021, when Pete sadly died from cancer at the age of 71
