Ismael Ontivaros, 22-Year-Old Man on Electric Scooter Dies in Collision with Car Near Fairpark
The Salt Lake City Police Department has identified the man who tragically lost his life in a collision involving an electric scooter and a car on Sunday evening as Ismael Ontivaros.
Despite receiving initial emergency medical care at the scene, Ontivaros passed away after being transported to a hospital.
According to SLCPD reports, this incident is the fourth traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City in 2024.
A 22-year-old man was driving a car west on North Temple Street when he struck Ontivaros, who was riding a rented scooter south on 800 West. The driver remained at the scene following the accident.
SLCPD has indicated that impairment may have played a role in the collision, and further investigation is necessary. The cause of the crash is still under review, with no arrests or citations issued as of Monday morning.
A specialized team is handling the investigation of crashes resulting in severe injuries or fatalities, as per SLCPD protocols.
