It is with deep sadness that the Port Jervis Police Department announces the passing of Ellen Marie Waugh, a cherished member of our police family and community. Ellen served as an Administrative Assistant within our department for over fifteen years, from 2003 to her well-earned retirement in 2019.
Ellen’s career was marked by unwavering dedication to her community and profound kindness. She worked closely with Police Chiefs Craig Cherry and William Worden, and her efforts significantly bolstered the department’s operations and community outreach initiatives. Ellen’s commitment to public service touched many lives in the Port Jervis community, leaving a lasting impact that will be remembered and appreciated.
One of Ellen’s most notable contributions was her involvement in organizing the annual National Night Out Against Crime Celebration. Her passion for this event was evident in her desire to see it succeed and bring joy to the community, particularly the children whose smiling faces were a source of great happiness for her.
Known affectionally within the department as part of the “blue family,” Ellen saw her colleagues not just as coworkers but as family. Her kind-hearted nature and maternal instinct made her a pillar of support and warmth within the Port Jervis Police Department.
As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her life and legacy. The positive influence Ellen had on all who knew her will not be forgotten. Her loving and encouraging presence uplifted everyone she interacted with, making the Port Jervis Police Department and the entire community better for her contributions.
On behalf of both active and retired members of the Port Jervis Police Department, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Ellen’s family during this difficult time. We are eternally grateful for the years of dedication Ellen gave to us all. She will be held forever in our hearts as a beloved member of our community and a true friend.
As we say goodbye to Ellen Marie Waugh, we also say thank you. Thank you for your years of service, your unwavering kindness, and your enduring legacy of generosity and spirit. May God bless her soul as she has blessed our lives with her presence.
