Devon Johnson Obituary, Teen charged with murder
Devon Johnson Obituary – A teenager, Deshawn Houston, has been charged by the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office in St. Paul for the shooting that resulted in the death of a man from Minneapolis in March. Houston, who is 17 years old, is facing two charges of second-degree murder and two charges of second-degree attempted murder.
He was apprehended in St. Cloud on March 29. The prosecutors have indicated their intention to request that Houston be tried as an adult. Based on the information gathered, authorities believe that Houston killed 23-year-old Devon Johnson during a drug deal that went awry. According to the charging documents: On March 14, St. Paul police responded to reports of gunshots in the 1300 block of Wilson Avenue after receiving multiple 911 calls. Upon arrival at 10:58 p.m., officers discovered evidence of a collision but no suspects or victims.
Shortly after, officers pulled over a Jeep Liberty on Minnehaha Avenue E. and N. Frank Street due to its erratic driving. The driver, identified as Z.M.P in the charging documents, informed the police that his friend in the back seat had been shot.
The wounded man was extracted from the vehicle, and CPR was initiated, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner identified the deceased as Johnson, stating that he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
During the investigation, Z.M.P revealed that he and Johnson had driven to the Wilson Avenue location to sell marijuana. It was at this point that a buyer, identified as D.H.M, approached them along with a teenager later identified as Houston.
Allegedly, Houston brandished a long-barrel gun at Z.M.P during the transaction and demanded drugs. Z.M.P attempted to grab the weapon as Johnson drove away, resulting in the gun discharging.
Z.M.P stated that Johnson collided with several vehicles before Z.M.P took control of the vehicle and placed the injured Johnson in the back seat. Z.M.P claimed that he was driving towards a hospital when the police stopped him. From a lineup, Z.M.P identified a person named D.H.M as the individual who had arranged the drug deal.
On April 1, authorities arrested D.H.M, who admitted to inviting others to an apartment on the 1300 block of Wilson Avenue to smoke marijuana. D.H.M mentioned that the group requested him to contact his source for purchasing drugs.
