Authorities have formally identified the person who was involved in the aircraft disaster that occurred on Monday at Spicewood Airport in Burnet County.
The Texas Department of Public Safety revealed that Wesley Perkins, a 74-year-old Lakeway resident, was the deceased. Perkins was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.
Around 6:30 p.m., the event happened, and the DPS was called to a scene near 100 Piper Lane that was described as a “single engine plane crash.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will work together to lead the crash investigation.
The inquiry was taken over by the NTSB, which made the announcement on Tuesday morning that their team of investigators was on their way to the location.
Documenting the crash scene and inspecting the aircraft were their immediate responsibilities. The aircraft will then be moved to a secure location for additional inspection.
According to information from Lancair’s official website, the aircraft in question is a two-seat, single-engine light aircraft, and the NTSB has identified it as such. According to the NTSB’s preliminary findings, the aircraft was performing touch-and-go landings when it crashed.
The pilot, the aircraft, and the operating environment are the three main areas of investigation that the NTSB has identified.
