Julianne Reid, Damion Calvin Stewart Obituary: Police report two fatalities in late-night semi crash on Interstate 65 near Austin, Indiana.
Julianne Reid, Damion Calvin Stewart Obituary – Late on Monday night, a tragic accident occurred on Interstate 65 southbound in Austin, Indiana, resulting in the loss of two lives. The crash took place near the 33-mile marker, just south of the Austin exit, at approximately 11:50 p.m. Upon arrival, Indiana State Police discovered three semis involved in the collision, with two of them engulfed in flames.
According to authorities, it is believed that a white Volvo semi had come to a stop due to traffic caused by ongoing construction near the 31-mile marker. Subsequently, a second semi slowed down to a stop behind it. However, a third semi failed to decelerate, resulting in a collision between the second and third semis, which then caused the first semi to be struck as well.
Tragically, the drivers of the second and third semis lost their lives in the accident. Fortunately, the driver of the first semi escaped without any injuries.
The Indiana State Police have identified the driver of the second semi as 55-year-old Julianne Reid from Indianapolis, and the driver of the third semi as 38-year-old Damion Calvin Stewart from Miami, Florida. Investigators believe that Stewart’s semi initially rear-ended Reid’s before both vehicles caught fire.
Additionally, one individual from one of the trucks involved was airlifted to UofL Hospital with severe burn injuries. Currently, the driver is in critical condition.
As a result of the accident, the southbound direction of the interstate remained closed for several hours on Tuesday morning. However, as of 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, all lanes have been reopened, as confirmed by Huls in a post on X.
