Jonathan Jean-Pierre Obituary: Man threatened to ‘kill everyone’ at Groton hotel with knife – Police
Jonathan Jean-Pierre Obituary – According to the Groton Police Department, a man has been accused of threatening an individual with a knife at a hotel in Groton on Sunday. The victim in this case was a parent accompanying a youth marching band that was staying at the hotel for a competition. At approximately 7:14 a.m., the police received a call from a man who claimed that the hotel staff had denied him access to a room and requested police assistance.
Shortly after, other hotel guests called 911 to report the same individual, later identified as Jonathan Jean-Pierre, a 30-year-old resident of Rosedale, New York. They stated that he was brandishing a knife and making threats to “kill everyone.”
Upon arrival, the officers found Jean-Pierre standing in front of the hotel, holding a knife. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, he refused to comply. As a result, one of the officers deployed a taser, which immediately incapacitated Jean-Pierre. Following the incident, the police confiscated a folding multi-tool/knife from Jean-Pierre and took him into custody. He was then evaluated by medical personnel, who determined that he had sustained no injuries.
Witnesses informed the police that Jean-Pierre became enraged when he was unable to access a room that the hotel staff had not yet prepared for occupancy. He began shouting profanities at the staff, who were in close proximity to a group of youth band members having breakfast. The marching band consisted of individuals aged 13 to 21 who were in the area for a competition.
One of the parents accompanying the band approached Jean-Pierre and requested that he lower his voice due to the presence of numerous children. In response, Jean-Pierre pulled out a knife and held it against the victim’s throat, threatening to harm the victim, their spouse, and their children, all of whom were present at the time.
The hotel staff intervened and managed to escort Jean-Pierre outside, where he continued to display the knife and make disturbing remarks until the arrival of the police.
Fortunately, no one sustained any injuries during this incident.
Jean-Pierre has been charged with violation of conditions of release, carrying a dangerous weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of risk of injury to a minor, and three counts of [unspecified charge].
