
James Egan Swarthmore PA, High school bowling coach died at 77
On April 29, 2024, James P. Egan, fondly known as Jim, passed away from this world. He was 77 years old and a resident of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. He was surrounded by the love of his family and died away in the comfort of his own home.
Who was James Egan?
Jim Egan was the beloved son of the late James and Marie (Walsh) Egan, and he was born in Darby, Pennsylvania. He was the cherished father of Michelle (Dennis) Gallagher, Matthew (Valerie), and the late Stephanie (Jeffrey) Braconnier. He was also the loyal and valued husband of Margaret M. (Briddes).
Dennis III, Roman, Julia, Chase, and Macie, Jim’s cherished grandchildren who provided him great delight, carry on his legacy. Ann Marie Taylor, his devoted sister, also survives him. Jim was a proud West Catholic High School alumnus whose life was shaped by his time spent in the American Army.

His work with White Horse Village and later the US Post Office demonstrated his commitment to the community. His dedication as a high school bowling coach, a member of the Greater Philadelphia Bowling Association Board of Directors, and his tenure as the Deputy Commissioner for the Delaware County Amateur Softball Association all demonstrated his love of sports.
His 19 years of volunteer work with the PA Special Olympics at Penn State University demonstrated his altruistic nature. Jim enjoyed bowling strikes, umpiring softball games, and riding roller coasters. He was a lover of life’s small pleasures. His passion for travel took him on numerous amazing adventures. His favorite places to visit were Myrtle Beach and Graceland, but he also made several stops at casinos, amusement parks, and baseball stadiums across the nation.

The family invite relatives and friends to join them in celebrating Jim’s life on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at St. Kevin Church, 200 W. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064, followed by a Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. in the Church.
Interment will take place at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, an organization close to his heart.
