The couple, identified as a 77-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman, was found inside their home on Cherry Valley Road, sparking an investigation that has left the community reeling.
The grim discovery was made around 9 a.m. when officers from the Vernon Hills Police Department and the Countryside Fire Protection District responded to a call regarding a possible incident at the residence. Deputy Chief of Police Shannon Holubetz recounted the somber scene, stating that upon arrival, officers found two individuals, both deceased and displaying apparent gunshot wounds.
The identities of the deceased couple have not yet been released by the Lake County Coroner’s Office, as authorities work to notify their next of kin. However, neighbors who spoke with Lake and McHenry County Scanner revealed that the couple were well-known residents of the neighborhood, adding to the shock and sadness felt by the community.
