Toledo Man, 54, Arrested and Charged with Felonious Assault and Carrying a Concealed Weapon After Allegedly Firing Shot at Driver on I-75 in Monroe County, Michigan

A 54-year-old Toledo man was arrested on Monday after allegedly firing a shot at another driver during a road rage incident on I-75 in Monroe County, Michigan. According to a press release from the Michigan State Police, the victim, a 68-year-old man, called dispatchers at approximately 11:05 a.m. to report the incident.

The victim alleged that the suspect was driving alongside him southbound on I-75 when he brandished a pistol and fired one shot. Fortunately, the victim and his vehicle were not struck by the shot. Both vehicles then exited I-75 at Laplaisance Road, where the victim safely parked at a gas station and waited for police to arrive.

The suspect was taken into custody at the nearby Harwood Plaza without incident. A pistol was found in the suspect’s vehicle, according to police. The suspect was lodged in jail and faces charges of felonious assault, carrying a concealed weapon, reckless discharge of a firearm, and brandishing a firearm.

The Michigan State Police are investigating the incident and are seeking additional information from witnesses or anyone with knowledge of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact MSP Trooper I. Molla at (734) 242-3500.

The incident highlights the dangers of road rage and the importance of remaining calm and patient while driving. The quick thinking and actions of the victim likely prevented a more serious incident from occurring.
