Authorities have identified the suspect in Saturday’s shooting death of a security officer at a club in CityPlace Doral as Jamal Wayne Wood, 37, of Miami-Dade County. Wood allegedly shot and killed George Alejandro Castellanos, 23, at the Martini Bar on Northwest 83rd Avenue.
According to authorities, an altercation had broken out in the bar, and security guard Castellanos had intervened. Two unnamed Doral police officers who responded to the scene engaged in a gunfight with Wood, resulting in his death. One officer is currently in stable condition after suffering a leg injury.
Multiple bystanders were injured in the shooting, including Frank Miguel Jerez, 34, Yaniris Jerez, 30, Carlos Milan, 38, Sonia Munoz Torres, 48, Gerard Patrick Delaney, 57, and Lester Williams Gonzalez, 28. One patient was transferred to a nearby hospital in critical condition, while most patients are in stable condition.
Castellanos’s mother, Jeanina Castellanos, spoke with NBC6, stating that her son was set to graduate next month from Florida International University and had a two-year-old daughter. “We are in utter shock at the moment,” she added.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for victims Milan and Yaniris Jerez, as well as Yaniris’s brother Frank Miguel. Milan was the most severely injured, with four gunshot wounds.
