Nevaeh Marie Mitchell, an 18-year-old student from Princeville, passed away unexpectedly in a car accident on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 12:27 a.m. in Peoria. Her family and community are devastated by the loss of this bright and diligent teenager.
Nevaeh was born on June 25, 2005, in Peoria, to Matthew Mitchell and Danielle Courteau, who survive her. She is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Rich and Alice Shipley of Princeville; paternal grandparents, Ben and Judy Mitchell of Peoria; great-grandmother, Jan Shipley of Princeville; two brothers, Rylee Mitchell and Mekhi Robinson; three sisters, Londyn and Delta Robinson, and Amya Stevens; two uncles, Ryan (Ester) Shipley and Sean (Britney) Courteau; and three aunts, Kristina (Randall) Feagin, Tiffany (Ty) Shipley, and Taylor (Mat) Hill.
Nevaeh was a dedicated student and was set to graduate with honors from Dunlap High School in just two weeks. She had earned a scholarship to Loyola University in Chicago, where she planned to continue her education and embrace future opportunities and adventures.
In addition to her academic achievements, Nevaeh was a creative and warm individual who worked at the AMC Theater in Peoria. Her job was more than just a means to an end; it was an extension of her welcoming personality. She loved drawing and clay work, and found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as sipping her favorite pink drinks from Starbucks and singing.
Nevaeh’s presence was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her creative soul left a lasting impression on the world around her. Her spirit, though taken too soon, will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
Nevaeh’s family and friends will deeply miss her, but they take comfort in the knowledge that her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched. Her visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Haskell Funeral and Cremation Services in Princeville.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2024, also at the funeral home. Pastor David Pyell will officiate. Burial will be in Princeville Township Cemetery.
Nevaeh’s passing is a reminder to cherish every moment and to live life to the fullest. Her bright light may have been extinguished too soon, but her memory will continue to inspire and motivate those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a scholarship fund in Nevaeh’s name, which will be established to support future students pursuing higher education.
Rest in peace, Nevaeh Marie Mitchell. Your legacy of love, kindness, and creativity will continue to inspire us, and your memory will remain a blessing to all who knew you.
