Obituary, Death Corey Greg Stasenko, 29, a Devoted Construction Worker and Entrepreneur, Dies in Trench Collapse in Kenilworth, N.J.
The community is mourning the unexpected loss of Corey Greg Stasenko, a 29-year-old construction worker and entrepreneur, who died on Monday, May 6, 2024, in a tragic trench collapse in Kenilworth, N.J. Born in Summit, New Jersey, Corey was a longtime resident of South Plainfield and had recently relocated to Cranford, New Jersey, where he was a proud homeowner.
Corey graduated from South Plainfield High School in 2013 and went on to study plumbing at Middlesex County Magnet School in Piscataway and human resources at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. He was a dedicated athlete, playing football and wrestling competitively throughout high school. His passion for his career was evident in his commitment to his work, starting his own business, Stasenko Landscaping & Hardscaping, after years of working as a landscaper for Giordano Landscaping. He obtained his plumbing license in 2023 and was employed by K and D Contractors in Kenilworth, New Jersey, at the time of his passing.
Aside from his professional endeavors, Corey was a creative and adventurous individual. He was an avid skateboarder in his youth and developed a passion for painting, sketching, and cooking as he grew older. He also enjoyed snowboarding and was often seen on the golf course. Corey’s love for life and his dedication to his family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Corey is survived by his parents, Lisa Scarpa and Gregory Stasenko; his brothers, Joshua and Alisha Stasenko; and his grandparents, Stella Stasenko and Bernard Scarpa. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Alex Stasenko and Lillian Scarpa. In addition to his immediate family, Corey will be missed by a large number of friends and extended family, including the Dinizo and Prasek families.
A viewing will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, from 4 PM to 8 PM, at the McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 10 AM, at Sacred Heart RC Church, located at 149 South Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home starting at 9 AM, before mass.
Corey’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the memories he created. His love and dedication to his family, friends, and community will never be forgotten.
