SFC Christopher W. O’Brien, a cherished husband, father, son, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the age of 46, surrounded by his loving family. Chris was born on September 11, 1977, in Glens Falls, New York, to William O’Brien (Connie), Marie Medick, and the late Michael Medick.
Chris proudly served his country from 1996 to 2016 as an infantryman in the United States Army. During his illustrious career, he served as both a recruiter and a drill sergeant, earning the Combat Infantryman Badge while serving in Iraq. Chris’s dedication to his nation and his family was unwavering, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
After his military service, Chris worked as a program support assistant at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, where he continued to serve his community with distinction. Chris was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Chicago Bears, and he recently fulfilled a lifelong dream by taking his son Cade to a Bears game at Soldier Field.
Chris’s love for his family was unparalleled, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was a devoted husband to Christi and a loving father to their three sons, Cade, Oliver, and William. Chris’s family was his rock, and he was theirs. He will be deeply missed by his mother, Marie Medick; his father, William O’Brien (Connie); his siblings, Erin Kurz and Bill, Dane Polidore and Rachel, Shannon Sharpe and Joseph, and Katie O’Brien and Austin Sneed; and his numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Chris’s passion for history and beekeeping was contagious, and he loved sharing his knowledge with others. He was a master of dropping cryptic historical references, and his family and friends will fondly remember his enthusiasm and humor. Chris’s love for camping and exploring new places was unmatched, and he will be deeply missed on future family adventures.
The community is rallying around the O’Brien family during this difficult time, offering support and assistance in any way they can. A graveside service with military honors will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Fort Edward, NY, on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 11 a.m. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, located at 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828, on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 2 to 5 p.m.
