The victims include a 13-year-old shot in the leg, a 15-year-old and a 34-year-old shot in the back, according to unverified reports.
The shooting took place in the north Baldwin region, near Stockton, and a state trooper was pinned down after being shot at. A large number of police officers, four helicopters, law enforcement agencies, the fire department, and emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene. Witnesses reported seeing multiple police officers rushing toward Interstate 65 and North Baldwin.
A 13-year-old was shot in the leg and is receiving medical attention. A 15-year-old and a 34-year-old were shot in the back and are in critical condition. The names of the victims have not been released pending notification of their families.
The Gulf Shores Police Department, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office, and Bay Minette Police Department collaborated to identify the shooter. Gregory D. Tate, III, 18, of Bay Minette, Alabama, was arrested on April 2, 2024, and charged with first-degree assault.
Tate was taken into custody by the Street Crimes Unit of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held at the Baldwin County Correctional Facility pending a bond hearing.
On March 27, 2024, the Gulf Shores Police Department received a complaint of shots fired in the 100 block of Gulf Shores Parkway, resulting in one victim, a minor, being shot.
