John Baker Obituary and Death: Devoted Family Man and Happy Hills Resort Owner Dies After Long Battle with Cancer

John Baker, the beloved owner of Happy Hills Resort family campground in South Western Ontario, passed away on May 14, 2024, at the age of 60, after a long and courageous battle with cancer since 2021. John was a devoted husband to his wife Elaine Baker, with whom he shared 35 wonderful years together, and a loving father to their three children, Matthew, Jacqueline, and Curtis. He was also a proud “grandfather” to three cherished grand puppies and is survived by his siblings, Jane Terhaerdt and Mark Baker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

John was an adventurous soul who loved riding motorcycles, cycling, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. He was always eager to explore new roads and trails and enjoyed the thrill of the great outdoors. John was also an avid camper who loved learning about the history of the places he visited and taking in the park’s amenities. He was a passionate pickleball player who enjoyed the camaraderie and competitiveness of the game.

John’s true passion was spending time with his friends and family. He was the center of every event, whether it was a simple get-together, a holiday, or a family reunion. John’s life and passion were Happy Hills, a family campground that his parents, John and Ena, started in 1971 when he was just eight years old. John was always engaged in some activity in the park, talking to other campers, solving problems, and planning for the next arrival. He was always willing to assist with any issue, no matter how small.

John actively engaged with the world around him throughout his life, encouraging everyone he encountered to tackle each day with excitement and purpose. His presence was a source of warmth and stability, and his absence will be greatly regretted by all who knew him.

In accordance with John’s desires, he has been cremated, and a private family celebration of life will take place later. Donations in memory of the deceased may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, the Memorial Tree Fund, or the Canadian Cancer Society.

John’s legacy will live on through his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched through his passion for Happy Hills. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and friend, and his memory will continue to inspire and motivate those who knew him.

John’s family is grateful for the outpouring of support and condolences they have received during this difficult time. They take comfort in knowing that John’s memory will live on through the countless lives he touched and the many adventures he shared with his loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House, the Memorial Tree Fund, or the Canadian Cancer Society in John’s memory. These organizations were close to John’s heart, and the family believes that this is a fitting tribute to his life and legacy.

John’s family and friends will gather privately to celebrate his life and share stories of his many adventures. They will remember him as a kind, generous, and adventurous soul who touched the lives of everyone he met.

John’s passing is a reminder to cherish the time we have with our loved ones and to live each day to the fullest. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and motivate those who knew him.

John’s family is grateful for the many condolences and tributes they have received since his passing. They take comfort in knowing that John’s memory will live on through the countless lives he touched and the many adventures he shared with his loved ones.

In closing, John Baker’s passing is a tremendous loss, but his legacy will live on through his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and friend, and his memory will continue to inspire and motivate those who knew him.
