Doroteo Alonso Arrested in Connection with April Shooting Death
Lubbock, Texas – An arrest has been made in connection with the April 21st shooting death of 34-year-old Lorenzo Soto. Doroteo Alonso, 26, was apprehended Wednesday evening in Snyder, Texas, and charged with murder.
According to Lubbock Police Department (LPD) reports, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 2200 block of Interstate 27 just before 2:00 am on April 21st. Upon arrival, they discovered Soto suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to University Medical Center (UMC) for treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators believe an altercation erupted inside a local club that night, involving multiple individuals. Security personnel intervened and removed those involved from the establishment. However, the conflict continued outside, tragically resulting in Soto’s shooting.
The LPD Metro Unit collaborated with the Texas Anti-Gang Center throughout the investigation. Their efforts led to Alonso’s location and apprehension on Wednesday evening in Snyder. He is currently being held in the Scurry County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
This senseless loss of life has deeply impacted Soto’s family and friends. Tributes poured in on social media, remembering him as a kind and caring person. A close friend, Maria Hernandez, shared, “Lorenzo always had a smile on his face and a helping hand to offer. He will be dearly missed.”
Local community leaders have also expressed their condolences and called for an end to gun violence. Pastor David Ramirez stated, “This tragedy underscores the critical need for addressing gun violence in our communities. We must come together to promote peace and understanding.”
The investigation into Soto’s death remains ongoing. No further details have been released regarding a possible motive or the circumstances surrounding Alonso’s arrest.
