The victims, Brian Cornelius, 47, and a 14-year-old male, were found with fatal gunshot wounds at 6 N. Cottonwood Court. Derek Johnson, 37, was discovered with numerous gunshot wounds in a bystander’s car and was taken to UC Medical Center for treatment. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect, Richard Fessler, 18, was taken into custody by the Alexandria police early on Saturday morning. He has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. Fessler is currently being held at the Campbell County Detention Center.

The police were called to the location around 3:45 p.m. after a vehicle saw a man outside who appeared to have been hit by gunshots. Cottonwood, Fessler escaped in a black Ford Focus, according to Johnson’s statement to the authorities.

When the police entered the house, they found the two victims had died. Fessler was taken into custody after the police were summoned to a residence near Washington Trace Road around 1 a.m. on Saturday.

The bystander who assisted Johnson, Ambyr Schnitzler, told Fox19 that she was driving through the area when she noticed a man running down a cul-de-sac, covered in blood and waving his arms. She pulled over to provide assistance and, upon noticing that he was hurt and bleeding, bandaged his wounds while calling 911.

The community is in shock and mourning the loss of Brian Cornelius and the unnamed 14-year-old. The police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
