Ellen was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to Todd J. and Rebecca L. (Langenbacher) Yarnell. She was a dedicated student and an active member of her community. At Hollidaysburg High School, Ellen excelled academically and was passionately involved in various extracurricular activities. She was a talented musician, participating in the school band, and had a keen interest in visual arts. Ellen was also a committed member of the Cross Country team, demonstrating her versatility and dedication.
After graduating from high school in 2023, Ellen continued her educational journey at Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Cook Honors College, where she was studying Speech and Language Pathology. Her choice of study reflected her desire to help others and her commitment to making a difference in the world. Ellen was known for her deep faith and active participation in Young Life, an organization that supports young people in their spiritual journeys.
Ellen’s personal interests were as diverse as her academic and extracurricular pursuits. She loved baking, a hobby that brought joy to her family and friends. Outdoor adventures were another of her passions, and she spent countless hours exploring nature and enjoying its beauty. Ellen cherished spending time with her family and caring for her beloved dog, Luna, who was a constant source of comfort and companionship.
The impact of Ellen’s life extended far beyond her immediate family. She was survived by her parents, Todd and Rebecca Yarnell, and her brother, Isaac Yarnell. Her extended family included her great-grandfather, Ron Wininger, and her grandfather, Michael Langenbacher, affectionately known as “Papa.” Ellen also leaves behind great-aunts Janice Lindsey and Ronda Wininger, uncles Larry and Waylon Yarnell, aunt Michelle Langenbacher, and cousins Jamen, Kaleb, Grace, Michele, and Jeff Ocker. Ellen’s kindness and infectious smile touched many lives, including special friends Joelle, Rachel, Victoria, Cali, Lydia, Mrs. Clever, and Mrs. Watt, who will all deeply miss her.
Ellen was preceded in death by several beloved family members, including her grandparents, affectionately known as Nana, Grammy, and Pappy Yarnell. Her great-grandmothers Nancy Wininger and Betty Langenbacher, and her great-grandfather Edgar Langenbacher, also passed before her. The community will have an opportunity to honor Ellen’s memory at a Celebration of Life service. Family and friends will gather from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Hicks Methodist Church, where the Rev. Rich Morris will officiate. This gathering will provide a space for those who knew Ellen to share their memories, grieve together, and celebrate the beautiful life she lived.
