Anthony Mattera of Revere Obituary and Death: Massachusetts, and a longtime teacher and coach in Revere Public Schools passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024. He was announced dead by the RTA – Revere Teachers Association in a social media statement that read “The RTA is saddened to hear of the passing of school committee member and longtime educator Tony Mattera. Your loss will be felt by all.”
Who was Anthony Mattera?
Anthony Mattera was a classroom teacher and coach with over 32 years in Revere Public Schools. Until the very end, he continued to serve on the school committee and put his all into building a pair of bunk beds that his two grandsons, Caleb and Ethan, would use for sleeping when they visited. When they come for their final visit to say farewell, the beds will be prepared for them.
He was a man who cherished his life, his family, and his town. He loved hosting get-togethers for his family and friends and cheering on his beloved Boston sports teams. He cherished “The Last Waltz,” the movie that chronicled The Band’s farewell concert, and it was his favourite rock band. Even though he had to get up early every morning to go back to Revere to check on the house and other things, he loved spending the week leading up to July 4th with family in Ogunquit. After breakfast, he would return to Ogunquit for a few beers and a book before heading to the beach.
About Anthony Mattera
All of his students adored him because he could simplify difficult subjects and make learning enjoyable. His unconventional teaching methods include his teachings on amoebas, his competitions to wrap and protect eggs and drop them from the school roof, and his lessons on investing, which involved having students select a firm stock each year and monitor its performance in the stock market. He realized that learning and retention were facilitated by making things enjoyable.
Many people want to become famous in order to leave a lasting legacy. Some people live their lives similarly to Tony’s, trying their hardest at everything to make the world a better place for everyone and everything they encounter. Tony became rather well-known after he was elected to the school committee in the previous election.
However, he did so in a low key and without much fuss, giving those who knew and trusted him the chance to once again offer his best as a school committee representative. He once again quietly and respectfully made every effort to support the provision of high-quality education in his hometown of Revere, even in the final stages of his sickness. That is the greatest legacy there is.
