Barry Lighty Obituary, Death – Our family will be honoring and remembering my uncle Barry Lighty, who passed away, over the next couple of days, so we will be unemployed during this time. At the Indianapolis 500, where Uncle Barry had spent decades working as a yellow shirt on the track, this picture was taken just this past May when it was taken.
We are going to miss you.At Fountain Central High School, he was a member of the very first graduating class, which was the Class of 1966. From 1968 until 1971, Barry served with honor in the United States Army, during which time he was stationed in Germany.
He worked with R.R. Donnelley for 45 years, retiring in 2012. Barry was a member of the Eagles, American Legion Post 72, 500 Breakfast Club. Barry was a lifelong yellow shirt and member of the Old Timers Club at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for 34 years and was known as the “Guardian of the Bricks.
” He had his passion of racing, campfires and touring, spending many years at Sugar Mill Lake with family and friends. Barry never met a stranger, and you would always find Barry with a smile on his face. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Denise Dyson.
Cremation was decided with Sanders Priebe Funeral Care entrusted with care. Visitation will be conducted on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 from 4-7pm at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington Street in Crawfordsville.
The memorial service will be on Wednesday “Hump Day,” March 13, 2024 at 10am at the funeral home with military honors offered by the United States Army and the American Legion, Post 72. Burial will follow at Oak Hill South Cemetery. Share memories and condolences at www.SandersFuneralCare.com.
