Martha Murphy Obituary, Death – On Thursday, June 4, 2020, Martha Ann Murphy, who was 27 years old at the time of her passing, died away in a calm and serene manner surrounded by her family. Martha Ann was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on the 26th of June in the year 1992. The numerous hours that Martha Ann spent preparing and competing all across the country with Dynamo Swim Club, where she still retains a top 10 all-time Dynamo record in the 200-meter backstroke, demonstrated her competitive spirit from a young age. She was a member of Dynamo Swim Club.
In 2010, she received her diploma from Atlanta Country Day School, where she had reached the position of Valedictorian for her class. On the other hand, Martha Ann made her academic home at Oglethorpe University, where she was guided and challenged by a kind and supportive staff, and where she received her degree in psychology. Although she was always open to receiving her letter to attend Hogwarts, she ultimately decided to attend Oglethorpe University. It was during her time at Oglethorpe that she began to develop her intellectual, artistic, and spiritual life.
Additionally, it was around this time that she began to develop an interest in trauma studies that focused on how to deal with repeated and extended hospitalizations. Following her graduation, she decided to spend a year teaching art and advanced placement psychology at Atlanta Country Day School. This allowed her to merge two of her passions. In addition, she did volunteer work in the emergency room of Northside Hospital Forsyth, which helped her gain a deeper understanding of healthcare environments.
She was passionately optimistic and proud, even in the face of repeated health issues, of attaining the milestone of her white coat ceremony when she passed away. Martha Ann was in the second year of a PhD program in Clinical Medical Psychology at Mercer University in Atlanta when she passed away. She was a student at the time of her passing. Martha Ann was a highly spiritual individual who had a desire for learning and a sympathetic curiosity about the world. She became an expert on any topic that aroused her interest and became a wealthy source of information.
She was a rare and genuine spirit who embraced the philosophical, quirky, and abstract questions that life presented with a forgiving wisdom and an openness to many points of view. Despite the fact that the artwork she leaves behind is a source of solace for her family, the most important thing she accomplished in her life was how she lived, how she struggled, and how she found joy in her life. In her 27 years of life, Martha Ann displayed bravery by coping with a congenital heart defect and a chronic disease.
She also utilized her wisdom and experiences to serve as a resource for empathy to anyone who felt like an outsider or who had endured sorrow. Martha Ann’s desire to learn and share her knowledge with others served as a source of motivation for people of all ages, from young children to working medical professionals. While being questioned about her legacy, Martha Ann urged all of us to remember her by living our own beautiful lives.

To this day, Martha Ann is survived by her mother and father, Martha and Sonny; her sisters Rachel, Sarah, Sharon Murphy Augustine (Mike), and Nancy Harter; her three nieces, Hailey, Kathleen, and Shyla; her grandmother, Shirley Widner; her aunts and uncles, Jane and Cofield Widner, Joann and John Norman, and Gail and Bill Murphy; a large number of cousins; and her devoted Italian Greyhound, Wally. Her maternal grandfather, William A. “Bill” Widner, as well as her paternal grandparents, Therrell Murphy, Sr. and Elizabeth Murphy, passed away before she was born.
