Hoormazd Javidbakht Car Accident, Death – Two young students tragically lost their lives in separate car accidents, shocking and distressing the community of two nearby high schools. Olentangy Liberty High School senior Hoormazd Javidbakht, 17, passed away on Friday after suffering injuries sustained more than two weeks ago in an unsafe crossing of a four-lane street in Powell when an SUV struck him.

Powell Police Department records indicate that the incident occurred on March 14 at approximately seven minutes after sunset. At the intersection of Sawmill Parkway and Village Club Drive, an SUV struck Javidbakht as he disregarded the pedestrian no crossing signal. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment right away, but sadly, he passed away from his wounds. Amazingly, all three people in the SUV the driver, a passenger, and the driver’s passenger—came out of the crash unscathed.

Javidbakht was an integral part of Olentangy Liberty’s athletic and artistic programs; he was also an engaged and respected member of the school community. The athletics website for the school announced that he would be a part of the boys varsity track team for the 2022–2023 school year.

While highlighting Javidbakht’s participation in school activities like choir, cross country, and track, Olentangy Liberty principal Mike Starner sent a disturbing email to parents on Saturday. There is a huge hole at school and elsewhere due to the loss of such a talented and beloved student.

And in a separate but related minibike accident, Westerville North High School student Cooper Nofal lost his life. Sadly, Nofal, a third-year high school student, passed away recently from his injuries incurred in the accident. Kurt Yancey, the principal, emailed the sad news to families first thing on Sunday. At this time, there is a lack of specific details about Nofal’s accident, including the exact circumstances and where it occurred.

The sudden and tragic death of a beloved student has shocked and devastated the Westerville North High School community. Tragically, this incident happened during spring break, when students were supposed to be relaxing and enjoying themselves.

A sense of overwhelming sadness and shock permeates the communities of both high schools as they come together to mourn the deaths of these two young people.

The tragic events highlight how fragile life is and how important it is to cherish every moment. In the midst of grief over Hoormazd Javidbakht’s and Cooper Nofal’s untimely deaths, their loved ones find solace in the memories they have of them and the impact they had on those around them.
