James Allen Jewett Obituary, Death – At the age of 82, James Allen Jewett, affectionately known as Jimmy, went away on March 29, 2024, in Wheeling, West Virginia, at Wheeling Hospital, with his loving family by his side.

James Jewett, whose parents Clarence and Josephine Smith passed away on January 31, 1942, was born on that date. Wheeling was his childhood home, and he graduated from McKinley Vocational High School there. In the four years after he graduated, James devoted himself to serving his nation in the US Navy on the USS Springfield.

Following his time in the military, James worked hard for 18 years at Valley Camp Coal. He next moved on to Ohio County Schools, where he remained for 20 years until finally calling it quits. James did not rest in his retirement; he spent twenty years serving customers at Wakims in Elm Grove, where he made friends and shared anecdotes. James loved to live it up and always sought out new experiences.

He rarely skipped a year of Jamboree in the Hills, a show he loved. Bowling, camping, and fishing were some of James’s favorite pastimes, along with music festivals. Sharing a cold drink and some laughter with friends was something he treasured. Most of all, James valued quality time with his loved ones, making new memories at every get-together.

Sisters Sandra Paoletti and Barbara Haller also passed away before James, along with his parents. Beloved wife Patty Wade Jewett and brother Clarence “Bud” Jewett of Valley Grove are James’s surviving relatives. Brian Barnes of Baltimore, Maryland; Eric Barnes of Wheeling; and Jamie Jewett Temple, Julie (Ed) Gornik, and Jodie (Matt) Bell, all of Florida, are his children.

He was also survived by Jenn Barnes of Baltimore, and Adam Barnes and Eric Barnes of Wheeling. The 11 great-grandchildren, 15 grandchildren, and plethora of nieces, nephews, and friends that James has left behind are a testament to his legacy.

Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 2 PM to 8 PM, at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St., Wheeling, friends and family are welcome to pay their respects. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 9 to 10 AM at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Deb Dague.
