Albany, NY – The community is mourning the untimely death of Spencer James Whitney, a dedicated security technician at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the young age of 21. Known for his deep spirit, unique perspective, infectious smile, and a laugh that could light up any room, Spencer’s absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Born on June 3, 2002, Spencer’s early dreams of marine biology showcased his enduring love for the natural world. Growing up alongside his brother Derek, Spencer was known for his serious yet approachable demeanor, quick to smile and share a laugh with those around him. As a teenager, he enjoyed quality time with family and friends, participating in the Duanesburg High School wrestling team, and sharing his love for animals and music with his younger cousins.

Spencer’s professional journey at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals began in the security department, where his exemplary work ethic, character, and interpersonal skills quickly earned him a promotion to maintenance technician. This achievement was a source of immense pride for Spencer and a testament to his dedication and hard work.

Spencer leaves behind a loving family, including his parents Faith (Kevin) Whitney and Michael (Lindsey) Whitney; siblings Derek, Ally, Chase, Troy, and Quinn; niece Maya; grandparents Renee (Mike) Herzog, James-Cody (Betty) Capozzi, Charles (Deanna) Whitney, Cherie Wrighter, and Keith Cail; great-grandmothers Shirley Crowley and Gloria Cail; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Each of them, deeply affected by his passing, will carry forward his memory with love and affection.

A visitation to celebrate Spencer’s life will be held on Saturday, April 6th, from 1 pm to 4 pm, followed by a service at 4 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, NY. In honor of Spencer’s love for animals, the family requests that donations be made to The James A. Brennan Humane Society in lieu of flowers.

Spencer Whitney’s legacy is one of kindness, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones and passions. As the community comes together to remember his life, his impact on those around him will not be forgotten. Rest in peace, Spencer Whitney.
