Joy Bowen Death  – It is with the heaviest of hearts that the Coonawarra Vignerons (CV) announce the demise of Joy Bowen, who was a founding member of the organization and was very much liked by its member base.

The abrupt departure of this woman, which occurred in the early hours of today morning, April 3rd, has left the entire community of Coonawarra and Penola in a state of profound disbelief.

Joy, along with her husband Doug, has been the driving force behind the continuous prosperity of Coonawarra ever since they relocated to the area in 1972 and established Bowen Estate in 1975. Since then, Joy’s daughter Emma has become a member of the winemaking family, which is a tradition that she is so pleased to see continue.

To say that she was an exceptional member of the community would be an understatement. Her enthusiasm for the area was indisputable. The ability to shine the light on others was Joy’s greatest strength. It is her dogged determination, astute leadership, and wise direction that will leave an indelible mark.

In addition to her love of wine, she had a deep appreciation for and expertise in the culinary arts, and she was an excellent cook in her own right. Every anyone who has ever had the good fortune to attend one of her renowned dinner parties can attest to the breadth and depth of her culinary expertise as well as her immaculate hospitality.

It should come as no surprise that her son Simon has followed her passion and succeeded in becoming a well-known chef at the Pipers of Penola restaurant, which has won multiple awards.

In addition to being a respected and influential member of the Coonawarra Vignerons Association and the Coonawarra Community as a whole, Joy will be remembered as a mother and grandmother who took great pride in her children and grandchildren. Please accept our deepest condolences during this sad and trying time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Doug, Emma, Simon, and Erika, as well as their families.
