Karen Shepard-Hamilton Death Notice – Karen Lawless Shepard-Hamilton, who resided in Douglasville, Georgia, passed away calmly and serenely on April 2, 2024. It is with a heavy heart that we will announce her demise. At this time, we do not have all of the information that can be found on her leaving. Karen Lawless was born in 1952 in Fort Clayton, which is located in the Panama Canal Zone.
Her parents, Jack and Jayne Lawless, were both members of the military. As an “Army brat,” she had a childhood that was full of excitement and variety. She lived in several different locales, such as Paris, France, and Manchester, New Hampshire, before finally settling down in the Ben Hill neighborhood of Atlanta.
The fact that she went to both Therrell High School and Clayton State College while she was still in high school is evidence of her early dedication to furthering her education. Having completed her training as a licensed practical nurse at Grady, she devoted her life to the field of healthcare, working at both Douglas General Hospital and Parkway Regional Hospital.
However, due to health concerns, she decided to shift her career focus to sociology. Karen’s tenacity allowed her to achieve a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from West Georgia College, even though she was experiencing difficulties with her health.
Her medical retirement occurred in 2004, and she continued her service in the medical industry by working as a member of the front office staff at the Lawrence Joel Army Health Center located at Fort McPherson until that fateful year.
Joseph Hamilton, Karen’s devoted husband of 29 years, her daughter Shawn Amandolia and her son-in-law Michael Amandolia, her daughter-in-law Leigh Ann Hamilton, her stepdaughter Katherine Stahl and her son-in-law David Stahl, as well as her five grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, are among those who are left behind after Karen’s passing.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Karen will be conducted on Sunday, April 7th, at three o’clock in the afternoon at Dog River Methodist Church, which is located at 5960 Highway 5, Douglasville, Georgia 30135.
Pastor Tim Constien will preside over the ceremony. Even though Karen is no longer a part of our lives, those who knew and loved her will always have a deep appreciation for her spirit and the legacy she leaves behind. May she rest in peace for all of eternity.
