Caleb Ramirez Obituary and Death, 8, Tragically Killed by Unlicensed Teen Driver in Pharr, Texas
Caleb Ramirez, an 8-year-old boy, was riding his bicycle in the 700 block of East Eller in Pharr, Texas, when he was struck and killed by a pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old boy without a license on April 26.
The accident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. when the 2-ton GMC Sierra pulled out of a driveway on the opposite side of the street and traveled 25 to 30 mph before hitting Caleb, who was almost across the street. The driver claimed he noticed the boy and his bike too late to stop the truck.
Caleb was pronounced dead at 8:09 p.m. The 17-year-old driver was issued a citation for driving without a license, according to the accident report filed with the Texas Department of Transportation.
The Pharr Police Department initially stated that the driver struck Caleb while backing out of the driveway and was cooperating with the investigation. However, they later changed their account, stating that the truck struck the youngster while traveling east on Eller.
