Algene A. Krause Obituary, Death – Skokie, Illinois, where Algene A. Krause had been residing for the past few years, was the location where he passed away on Tuesday morning, March 26, 2024.

He was 91 years old. On March 17, 1933, he was born in Wonewoc, Wisconsin, to August Krause, who had passed away, and Alice (Sommerfield) Krause.

At Peace Lutheran Church in Janesville, on July 6, 1968, Algene tied the knot with the woman who had previously been known as Joanne L. Morris. Her passing occurred on April 22, 2018, which was before his.

He enlisted in the United States Army in June 1953 and was discharged with honor in May 1955. Algene served his country during his time in the military. For twenty years, Gene and his wife worked as campground hosts in a number of Wisconsin state parks, but the majority of their time was spent at their favorite state park, Mirror Lake State Park.

Gene was an avid camper. He enjoyed spending time in his workshop, where he would create a variety of wood works and figure out how to fix whatever was “wrong” in the house, with the car, or with the camper.

When he was not hanging out at the parks, he enjoyed spending time there. In his later years, he attended classes at the Janesville senior center, where he learned how to play the dulcimer that he had constructed, and he also began to learn how to carve wood.

Algene’s children who survive him are Carla Krause, Cathy Krause, Michael Krause (married to Linda Krause), and Wayne Krause (married to Jane Krause). Additionally, he is survived by two grandchildren: Lindsey Krause and Jaley Grant (married to Dylan Grant), as well as great-grandchildren Eliana Grant and Noah Grant. His wife Joanne, parents, and siblings Gordon (Margie) Krause, Robert (Loretta) Krause, and Harlan (Judy) Krause come before him.

On Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m., Algene’s visitation will take place at the APFEL WOLFE FUNERAL HOME in Janesville, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Oak Hill Cemetery in Janesville will be the site of the burial.

You can send condolences online at www.apfelwolfe.com. We would appreciate a donation to Friends of Mirror Lake State Park or VFW Janesville in his honor in place of flowers.
